TLC 2015: Sheamus vs. Roman Reigns

WWE fans stormed the shop windows of TD Garden, Boston, MA on December 13 2015, to see a spectacular of physical sport (WWE TLC) event. The best part of the evening featured an electrifying Tables, Ladders  Chairs (TLC) match for the gold WWE World Heavyweight Championship, when Sheamus, the reigning champion, faced Roman Reigns. All of this will happen, in the context of lifelong animosity and an old score in the middle of one of the most emotional WWE matches in recent times.

The Build-Up

The rivalry between Sheamus and Roman Reigns stemmed from a sense of betrayal and ambition at the core of both characters. More specifically, and "right in the thick of it" the pressure broke at the finish of Survivor Series •2015, where Roman Reigns held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after a main event bout. But it was brought to an abrupt end in the middle when Sheamus took advantage of this opening, putting Finn through the crosshairs in cashing in Money in the Bank. Sheamus, almost instantaneously, seized onto the newly defended title that startled Reigns and the WWE Universe. Profound, excessive food consumption aberrant behavior not only turned Reigns' success into a disaster, but also allowed Sheamus to be a highly functioning opportunist who could take advantage of this disorder.

From week to week, the story spiraled out of control until the very last week before TLC, as Reigns became more and more out of his mind, trying to take back the World Heavyweight title from Sheamus. This evidence resulted in physical violence becoming the norm, language becoming an instrument of blunt force, and subsequently punches as a tool of violence. The personal expenses were extremely high, so the TLC exclusion constituted an appropriate battleground for their conflict.

The Match

The minute the TLC game commenced by the ringing of the bell the room atmosphere was electric with anticipation. Reigns, possessing the disposition marked by stubbornness and iron will, wasted none of the chances to seize control. He rained down Sheamus' brutal fury, and all with the feeling of feeding a grudge to make up for what he had lost. In TLC fights, both opponents entered the octagon with a device, chair, table, or ladder stripped of all civilian characteristics and prepared for battle.

Key Moments and Climax

  1. Early Offense: Right from the beginning Reigns that style of The smackdown" Sheamus style, with severe one. He made a drive-by dropkick over and there was a sensation of'under pressure' in the stadium as Sheamus was sent into the "wild. This was immediately countered by a savage blow of Sheamus' head to the steel steps, which made it clear Reigns intended to run things from the start. However, Sheamus, being the seasoned brawler, gave him a wildly retaliatory answer by delivering a showman's power move that sent him crashing over the announce table. It was a rampage with chairs being bludgeoned as instruments of suffering as Sheamus methodically beat Reigns over and over again with chair blows.
  2. Weaponry: The struggle increased at an alarming rate over time as its escalation increased, because every side continued to use the rule on itself and then ruthlessly used the these tools of the TLC as a pawn, i.e., an instrument which must answer some ulterior goal. Reigns also made an effort to create a significant edge by powerbombing Sheamus through tables and catapulting him off of ladders. With every powerful move, the cinema crowd gasped but a constant aura of significance coated the theatre as captivated fans became entangled in the evolving narrative. Amazingly resourceful, Sheamus counter-attacked with a high-impact White Noise manoeuvre landed on top of a ladder, to show his personal strength and his commitment to retain his championship.
  3. Climbing the Ladder: If the battle could end up into a tragedy as a result of an accident, then the critical moment was a millisecond in which the two competitors decided to take a shot at climbing up the ladder instead of winning the champion belt instead of fighting in the boxing ring. As Reigns vs Sheamus fought for the championship on a ladder, the grip strengthened to push Reigns (down to the mat) again and again by Sheamus. With every time Reigns was hinted at the gibbet the pain on his face was evident and, yet, unmistakable in the denial of his yielding. Yet each rejection only intensified by the competition between the factor that they will be competing with to be at the top.
  4. League of Nations Interference: On the other hand, when the tournament reached the top, Sheamus supporters Rusev and from the League of Nations Alberto Del Rio in a sudden intervention swung it put in the favor of Sheamus. This became a pivotal moment of betrayal, as they pulled Reigns off the ladder and laid a merciless beating on him. Though despite the Reigns' effort to stop the two attackers he was overcome by the combined attack. That exogenous shock, also, exposed just how competitive WWE competition is, a setting, in which the circumstances can change instantly.
  5. Aftermath: The sensationalist ending had Sheamus reconciling by getting up the ladder and claiming his prize money, but the real drama took place after the match had ended. Having regained his composure, Infuriated Reigns unleashed a tidal wave of repressed anger on Sheamus, Rusev  DelRio by means of steel chair. Chaos at the post-game reached its peak when the WWE COO Triple H tried to step in, but wasmartly on the receiving end of a vicious Spear by Reigns himself. The wild show reverberated over the corral, highlighting Reigns' spirit of will, as did the iron resistance to yield, no matter how it might be challenged.

Legacy

The Sheamus vs Roman Reigns match at WWE TLC 2015, has, and will forever be etched in the memory, due to the viciousness of their fight as well as the fact that it marks the beginning of a transformation in the life path of each of them. In the case of Sheamus, the successful title defence solidified his image as a wicked character, making him a fearsome champion who could always manage his opponents with cunning and strategy. Conversely, Reigns' submission demonstrated his tenacity, physical strength and an unmatched refusal to fail, which made the case for his position as one of the greatest WWE stars ever, despite the difficulty.

Reflecting on this, the match may ultimately also be seen as a manifestation of the narrative power of pro wrestling in that the emotional investment of the viewers served to highlight the importance of the match and its stakes, the confrontation itself. Not only did this competition provide a visual and a visceral mirroring of the TLC match soul, but it also provided a future story for the WWE superstars' storylines, in the process. The feeling of tension, strategic interference and emotional factors of betrayal and revenge embedded in the current WWE world, it has been a strong stimulus that, when it comes to rivalry, personal grudge and motivation can push the human/physical confrontation to its extreme limit.

Although both Sheamus and Reigns moved on, watching the WWE Universe saw that this "point of no return" at TLC 2015 would also continue in the lives of both their own career and in the lives of those that would follow them in their thunderous treads.
